Chemical Constituents from the Flowers of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis

Pittaya Tuntiwachwuttikula,*, Kanokon Rayanila and Walter C Taylorb

ABSTRACT: Activity guided fractionation of an ethanol extract from the flowers of Nyctanthes arbor-tristis led to the isolation of an antiplasmodial cyclohexylethanoid, rengyolone (1); a new iridoid glucoside, 6-Otrans- cinnamoyl-7-O-acetyl-6b-hydroxyloganin (2); and three known iridoid glucosides, arborside C (4 4), 6b-hydroxyloganin (6) and nyctanthoside (7). Compound 1 and its acetate derivative (1a 1a) exhibited antiplasmodial activity against Plasmodium falciparum. Chemical structures of 2 and its acetate (2a 2a) were elucidated by spectral analyses.
