A SUPPORTING EVIDENCE FOR (2 +2) CYCLOADDITION OLIGOMERIZATION OFPHENYLACETYLENE

ABSTRACT: The polymerization of phenylacetylene by chromium hexacarbonyl in toluene was studied in detail. Since ladder compounds containing fused cyclobutane rings were isolated, the proposed (2+2)-cycloaddition mechanism for oligomerization was corroborated.
