ABSTRACT: We have analysed illegitimate transcription of brain specific genes in normal human blood Iymphocytes. Total RNA was extracted from Iymphocytes and after a first step of reverse transcription, the prion cDNA sequence was amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in the presence of specific primers. Amplification of a fragment of the prion gene sequence was observed, indicating that the corresponding gene was transcribed in blood Iymphocytes.
