JOHN ADDUCIa, DUANG BUDDHASUKHb, AND BELA TERNAIa

ABSTRACT: Stevioside, a sweet-tasting glycoside, was isolated from Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni) in three main steps, namely hot water extraction, decolorization. by electrolysis, and simultaneous decolorization and demineralization by ion exchange. Stevioside of 70-80 % purity was obtained in 8-10 % yield.
