TOTAL SYNTHESIS OF NEW STEROIDS

PIERRE CRABBE

ABSTRACT: An asymmetric total synthetic scheme of A-nor steroids is detailed, following a short and flexible approach. This stereoselective procedure is extended to the preparation of a number of novel compounds, including optically active D-homosteroids and A-nor heterocyclic steroids. Several unexpected and potentially useful side-reaction compounds have been. identified. Some of these new steroids exhibit promising biological properties which are discussed.
